ROMAN EMPIRE C A R A C A L L A 198 - 217 AD. Large Coin--a bit larger than a U.S. Quarter but twice as thick and over two times heavier (U.S. Quarter 5.6g.) AR (Silver) Tetradrachm. 26mm, 14.76 g. Fourth group, first issue. Struck circa AD 214-215. Seleucis and Pieria. Antioch mint. Obverse: • AVT K • M • A ANTΩNЄINOC • • CЄB, Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla left from behind! Reverse: • ΔHMAPX • ЄΞ • VΠA • TO • Δ, Eagle Prieur 1179.

Silver Tetradrachm. 26mm, 12.13g.
Struck ca. 215-217.
CYRRHESTICA, Hierapolis mint.
Obverse: AVT•Κ•M•A•ΑΝ-ΤΩΝЄΙΝΟC•C-ЄB• Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust facing, head left.
Reverse: ΔΗΜΑΡX•ΕΞ•Υ-ΠΑΤΟC TO•Δ• Eagle standing facing, head and tail right, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak; between legs, lion advancing right. Ref. Prieur 937 (this coin!) ~ this is the actual plate coin in Prieur.
Extremely rare, only two specimens noted by Prieur, and two in CoinArchives.
