    Description

After more than 60 years of collecting coins, it is time to move my collection along. Here is a nice classic design that was issued by Constantius Gallus who ruled the Eastern Roman Empire as Emperor from 350-354AD. However, his rule was so cruel that it caused civil revolt such that he was recalled by his father Augustus Caesar Constantius II, stripped of his powers and executed. This AE3 bronze is 18mm in diameter and is nicely struck on the flan, which is unusual for many coins of this era.
On the obverse is his bare headed draped, cuirassed bust right with the legend DN FL CL CONSTANTIVS NOB CAES. On the reverse is a classic battle design of a helmeted Roman solider spearing a fallen horseman with the legend FEL TEMP REPARATIO. In the exergue below is SMKE which designates the coinage as “sacred money” (SM), followed by the mint mark “K” (Cyzicus mint) and “E” designating that the coin was minted in the 5th Officina. This coin is listed in the Sears reference book as S4056.
As I got this one a while back, and everything needs to find a new home, I can offer this at a very attractive price and also provide FREE SHIPPING to within the US.
