Unfortunately, after a thorough search of the sculpture, no maker's mark or signature was found. The whippet sculpture is free-standing & wasn't cut or removed from a base plate. It was never attached to a base & the bottoms of the feet are undisturbed. The figuration is superb, highly detailed & incredibly articulated, w/real artistic dexterity & familiarity w/the particular whippet pedigree breed, often prized by wealthy, patrician owners. The muscularity & lean body of the dog is amazingly realized, as is the curled up front paw of the whippet, placing the dog in an anticipatory, reactionary pose & prone, as if waiting for a treat from its owner. Absolutely beautiful.
