Very Rare Æ Copper Roman Provincial Coin (23.7mm, 9.03g.) Marcus Aurelius, Thrace, Augusta Traiana (Trajanopolis) mint, struck 161-169 A.D. References: Varbanov 854. Augusta Traiana (Stara Zagora, Bulgaria today) was founded by Trajan, c. 106 A.D. During 2nd - 3rd century A.D., it was the second largest city in Roman Thrace, after Philippopolis, and was fortified by strong walls. The city struck bronze coins from the time of Marcus Aurelius to the reign of Gallienus.
This rare issue was hand struck (hammered) in Plovdiv, Bulgaria (ancient Roman province Philippopolis). It goes without saying you always get the exact item in the picture.
