Pair 1950’s Wood Specialty Rolling Pins; Springerle/ Noodler, Crusher, ?.
Here we have a pair of rolling pins from around the 1960’s. Each has a different use in the kitchen. The first, smaller rolling pin with the yellow handles is easy. It is a Springerle cookie roller used to mold holiday cookies originally made in Germany. This is a nice relatively modern pin with an assortment of imprints. The yellow painted handles have nicks here and there but are still bright and shiny. It rolls easily and freely. The second, larger pin is a nice example of a ridged rolling pin from the same time period. Its red painted handles provide a good look on this large pin. This one is a little harder because there is no real consensus on what this pin is used for. Many say it’s a noodle cutter. Others say it provided air under rolled cookies to let the air circulate, used to crush graham crackers for pie crusts, used to breakup peanut brittle after it hardens or even use as a meat tenderizer. What ever the use, it sure has a good look and it too rolls smoothly. The two pins together scream the 1950’s kind of retro look. They would look great displayed together with other bright colored kitchen items from the same era.
